that the DAC supports 24bit/96KHz). I tried converting to wav
in the server, but got 0dB white noise, which was a bit of a surprise!

Having looked again, the output from the SB3 SPDIF is actually 44.1KHz
not the 88.2/96K of the 'studio master' quality file I downloaded.
Given that the output is 44.1K then the input is most likely 88.2K.

Did the linear PSU really make a difference when using the SB3 with an
external DAC? This thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24392 shows no
difference in jitter measurements.

What are 'inaudible levels' of jitter?
Is 71pS RMS audible?
Don't good quality DACs have buffers in them already? What about
oversampling? Doesn't this reduce bit error rate?

measured the jitter at 321pS peak-peak
http://www.stereophile.com/digitalprocessors/906slim/index3.html and
you're figures are slightly worse.
[Mods] This thread should be made a sticky.

Were you taking into account the Sb3 circuit, or using this as general
proof that 'bits are bits' -even over SPDIF?
Just as general proof (that a linear PSU does not reduce jitter
compared to the stock SMPS).
