Just picked-up another 10m TOSLINK cable from local store and it now
works fine (and sounds great tooo)!!! The cable that was faulty was
new! Anyway, many many many thanks for all your comments/replies.

VD to output as PCM rather than Bitstream but no joy. Does any
know if this should work or can work? I would very much like have the
DVD audio processed by the TP rather than the TV! The DVD is a
Panasonic DMR-EH50 and the optical output is described as PCM/Bitstream
output.
