Why compress at all?

a) disk is cheap (1TB disk is ~$300 this can hold on the order of 1600+
CDs, 250GB is nearly free ;-)

b) once in AIFF (native) you can rip to any format you choose by
clicking and going to bed (to build a library for ipod for example)

c) you rip all your cds once (and never again)

d) no audio quality loss, period.

e) as ipods grow in size you could put full cd audio quality on your
portable player (can you say 160GB ipod?).
