Depends a bit too on how golden your ears are. If you have really good
ears, and your focus is on stereo, a 2-channel setup might please you
most. But some of the Denon, Maantz, NAD and Onkyo AV receivers offer a
lot for the money, and pretty decent sound quality to boot. Go to some
HiFi/Home
1 - I would (indeed have) go for a music system, and plug the TV/DVD
into it. This means no compromise on music, and IMO such systems are
perfectly good for AV - you just need the ability to go fairly loud,
really. If you watch lots of TV and films, maybe a surround system
could work for you,
The budget is around about 600-800 Australian Dollars, that's 500-650
USD / around 300 GBP. Thanks.

I think a carefully chosen Home Cinema system will meet your cabling
needs but it may compromise audio.
Home Cineman systems usually have
- DVD / CD player
- AM/FM radio
- Play Decode TV sound (e.g. Dolby Surround) from off-air/cable
signal if fed through Aux Phono input
- Digital Phono Aux
You can either piece it together: amp and speakers (and dvd player if
you want) or buy a complete system. I bought a Onkyo HT R550 7.1 system
for around 500.00
I also have put together a basic yamaha amp, dvd player and tower
speakers for 400.00.
I like the Onkyo set because it covers
Most of the Nad range of amps should fit the bill either s/h or new..all
should have enough inputs but if not choose the model accordingly. As to
av or 2ch you wqill get better sound via a two channel system but
better home cinema vi a av system it depends where your priorities lie.

Hi folks,
I apologise and kowtow in advance for knowing almost nothing about
audio. Hence why I'm asking for help...!
1) I'm moving into my own place on a fairly tight budget for the
moment. I have a Squeezebox already and love it, and will buy an LCD
television. I would like the SB, the TV
What is your budget?
You need powered speakers to use the Squeezebox by itself. (i.e Audio
speakers)
