The point is, it might work, but it might not.
You're potentially violating the rules under which slimserver and the
slim client operate. Protocol changes, etc, are sychronized between the
two.

Switching back to firmware 15, and I swear I can now hear the sound of
one hand clapping...
..and off in the distance...yes, there it isthe distinct sound
of a tree falling in an empty forest
Put my vote on the magical firmware 15

This fw15 thing is just silly. What differences can anyone hear?

Humor?
Where is the humor in repeatedly slagging off people?
Do you log on to sites for various interest and start joking about
those mad people too?
It is just a never ending stream of why do you think
*I* didn't slag anyone off (not that I entirely know what that means,
but I suspect I get the point).
I'm the one who gave you a serious answer, that operating the
squeezebox at a different firmware level than the server is expecting
can lead to protocol problems.
Humour abounds in the Slim
I suspect that SB fans tend to be a bit more technically inclined than
the average audiophile. As such there may be a higher level of healthy
skepticism here than in a typical audiophile forum. So some may need to
develop a thicker skin...

Just give it a rest. For once.

There's a guy at AudioCircle who created a nifty program to switch
firmware versions. Works like a charm. I switched from 48 to 15 with no
problems. Flawless performance. I am using the latest 6.2.2 Slimserver.

Is there any intersection between those special audiophiles who can hear
that FW 15 sounds better than any other firmware and the coders who
contribute to the firmware?
Perhaps those folks can identify the code that made the difference...
(...and of course copy/paste it into the current
Could someone kindly show me how to put back firmware 15 into the latest
Slim Server v6.2.2? I attempted to do it without any luck, so now my
squeezebox can't connect to server at all.
Thanks.

I totally agree. What's gotten in the water around here? Hey, here's an
idea, next time I go for a walk, I'll make sure to reverse my polarity.
I'll start with my left foot forward. It should make a big difference.

For Heavens sake - there is NOTHING magical about FW15 - going back 20
odd versions is just silly. IT WILL NOT SOUND ANY BETTER. It may sound
worse...
(and yes I did try it - and no I am not deaf)

It depends on what you are walking on. If there is a great
I believe there are audible differences even when using the digital out.
Perhaps I was expecting a change, but I did clearly hear a difference
between firmware 48 and 15. I am using a Lite Audio DAC-60.

Anyway, why not consider that this is the Audiophile section, and give

Yeah, you would think the ear police would stop at the door.

I was under the impression it's [FW15] only 'audiophile approved'
because it causes reversed polarity. If you or someone has bypassed the
opamp this gets you back to correct polarity, which may be more
convenient than switching leads if you use other sources.

Well yes, a change in polarity is involved but apparently there are
more changes soundwise even when that is taken into account. See
