Set it to fixed volume level unless that is too high. In some cases a
reduced setting will sound better if the fixed/100% level is
overdriving the preamp input. I have mine set to 91%.

The fixed settings is for the digital output, not analog. If you want
fixed volume for analog then set it to max and disable replay gain.
The settings are in SettingsPlayersAudio.

It looks like there is a 'direct' mode on your amp to avoid
bass/treble/balance controls, which might be worth trying if you're

In my case the active pre-amp (which is also a RCA to balanced
converter) is a must (pro gear is not well driven by RCA outputs).
In my case was impossible to set the volume right without a powered
pre amp.
