I maintain the late 80s EMI masters for The Beatles are better than the
recent remasters. From a dynamic range point of view there is evidence,
for example check out Rubber Soul 65 vs 88 vs 99.

Sorry you are absolutely right, I should have said fortunately, the
mastering on the
I even still like the original sound of the first release. It sounds a
bit thin and you really have to turn it up but it is still one of
better recordings out there.
You may check if you have an early cd version that was sold with
pre-emphasis and apply de-emphasis. Not sure but on several
