Meridian has long complained that the jitter over HDMI was terrible.

I'd love to see a device capable of playing the high bit rate 5.1 audio
pulled from DVD-As and Blu-Ray. HDMI is fine by me.

Personally, I think HDMI is OK for watching TV and Movies as a one
cable solution. I can even see a case for Audio because of bandwidth.

Hi,
I am planning to upgrade my SB3 with Transporter.
There are few things that bother me, specifically if there will be next
model release in half a year timeframe?
What I find missing from the current model is lack of HDMI output and
support of higher resolution audio, e.g. 192/24 stereo

The consensus seemed to be that the Tranporter would not evolve, which
seems to me a pity. I would hope that it is not a dead-end product,

Why wasn't the Transporter upgraded in years?
The Transported might not have been updated since July 2006, but other
than a cosmetic change to all black, the SB3 hasn't been updated since
November 2005. They work well as they are so why update
I don't know why anyone would want to screw around with HDMI in an audio
only environment. It's just another DRM enforcement technique, and it
doesn't work reliably.

Hi
yes, to my surround preamp, Audiolab 8000AP; this is the way SB3 is
connected today, via digital coax.
I have invested into workflow around squeeze center (e.g. Pronto
automation) hence the way I see to upgrade music streaming is a step-up
to Transporter.
Otherwise, I would go for LINN,

HDMI does not require the use of HDCP, but it is part of the spec.
HDMI also has a built in control

Except that the current implementations of HDMI have much higher jitter
figures than SPDIF. In the Feb 2009 edition of the Hi-fi News magazine
Paul Miller measured the following jitter results for a few A/V
amplifiers:
Denon AVR-3803A

SPDIF: 560psec
HDMI: 3700psec
Onkyo TX-NR906

Unfortunately the Denon and Onkyo amps were rated to sound the best, but
I believe that had more to do with their amplifier sections than the

If an amp with 77 times the jitter of another and still sounds better,
there really isn't any point in measuring jitter.
I'm not an audiophile so I may be wrong. But
