If I remember correctly, they are auto-selecting the input voltage
windings for the linear supply. This was to make it possible to work
on both 120 and 240 volts without manually setting an input switch.

There are some relays, you hear them clicking over during a reboot for
example. There's also the front knob degauss cycle which sounds like a
short vibration.

It is the Transporter elves inside tossing the digital files in a relay
line.
Sometimes they get raucous and make too much noise.
Send an email to their manager, Terry Pratchet, he can quiet them down.
