I can second the DIY IPL transmission lines.
I've had a pair of the baby S3TLs for many years. They
don't like being pushed very hard, but the bass extension and clarity
is startling - not bad from a 115mm diver.
Service is also good IPL.

Another option would be some of the cheaper horns. My old Impulse

from IPL Acoustics? I have the S5TL Golds which are the largest ones.

Cerwin-Vega are well-known for their very high efficiency floorstanding
speakers. But I've never heard them, so can't comment on sound quality.
A friend who used to work in HiFi retail (brands like Linn, Naim, ATC,
AVI) once described them as "naughty", with a grin on his face.

I've had an Arcam Alpha CD player and amp from when they didn't have
numbers after their name ('88, in this case) and a pair of Linn Index
speakers[1] - same vintage.
What do you think? 20 year upgrade might be permissible?
