Here is an example using the new 'shwh' (show-whiteouts) option,
available in aufs-20080310.

Maybe you'd like to check this through and include it in the cvs source?

Hi there,
I have a feature request. I don't know whether it would be possible, or
whether you have a better idea, but here goes.
I have a three layer aufs mount, which is being used as the root fs:
[top]layer1=rw(tmpfs):layer2=ro+wh(squashfs):layer3=rr(squashfs)[bottom]
What I want to do is
It used to be possible to build aufs without the full kernel sources,
but now this doesn't work, I get the following:
...
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.23-ARCH'
grep: /usr/src/linux-2.6.23-ARCH/mm/shmem.c: No such file or directory

Hi Philipp,
Yes, something like that should work - it's more or less how most live
CDs do it (though I can't speak for the details, I haven't used this
method for a while - I am now using klibc instead of busybox and
mounting aufs later).
If you need example scripts you could look at

Could it be that there is a difference in regard to this in pivot_root
and switch_root? I
We are getting a strange 'lag' behaviour using aufs (well it seems
strange to us). It's happening in a live CD environment using squashfs.
After certain file-system operations - apparently where a large number
of files get added or updated, but exactly when it happens and when not
is not clear -
