Do you have the IGC file from the flight.
Unfortunately in Australia glider accident investigation results are a closed
shop so we have to come to our own conclusions (Speculation)

I know of an incident when the SES cut a boat to pieces on the beach,
including cutting the rigging into 1 metre lengths. Apparently they
had a new saw that needed testing.
