The answer is yes, but.
You don't want the exhaust underneath the fuselage. The Caproni jet
had this but soon went to the bifurcated exhausts in the wing roots.
The Caproni had a NACA duct which could be closed on top of the
fuselage which fed intake air . It's in a low pressure zone.
Are there any experts on this list who would like to comment on the
following?
Is it feasable to leave the jet engine in the fuselage,providing air from a
plenum chamber with intake ducts that fold from the fuselage sides.
