Hi all,

FYI

Don't know too much about it but I heard a radio report that 2 GPS
satellites are faulty at the moment and accuracy in Australia is somewhat
reduced.

A friend of mine who came over last night told me he has had trouble with
his car GPS in the last few days, so much so it is unusable for street
navigation in Adelaide.

Regards

C'mon Dav, Adelaide?? how many streets are we really talking about? :-)

The reason I asked about the 50ft thing was in relation to actual comps, all height will be used, legal or not. During the NZGP, CAA banned the low level finishes after day 1. This left the competitors with the simple option of (loosing) legal finishing OR not. They choose to RACE and all subsequent finishes of the top end finalists were low altitude, high speed -because they were RACING.
To get around the prospect of CAA legalities, those pilots deemed the final
glides to be approach runs and landed straight in, downwind, often full of
water. Ground effects were utilised from up to 5k out (under 2m AGL), hopping
fences and power lines.
Spectacular, but for training, this is hardly the best option.
I am not trying to undermine the good work of folks who have got our local
endorsements to where it needs to meet our own CASA legislations, I have no
doubt the line is quite fine. There is just little sense in practicing 50 ft
competition finishes when folks will get it 44 foot wrong on race day.
Our military forces train with real bullets for a damn good reason. AND I wouldnt really have a clue, having never flown comps, seen a decent highspeed finish except on film nor crashed a glider. But then again, neither have most of our regulators in Canberra. (Flame resistant suit on)
