Although I wouldn't make sweeping statements that all 172s are spin capable, I know at least some are, with conditions (in the Utility category and flaps retracted). Not only capable, but the manual describes up to 6 turn spins under normal operations (section 4). I never flew with Mr O'Driscoll,
