HI Roger and all,

We recently found that the Gippsland fix only applies to the larger Pawnees PA-25-235 and up. We had to buy our front wing attach clusters from Kosola in America around $2000 USD plus freight. They also hired us the gigs for installation and the local Aircraft maintenance organization had them welded in.

To get the Gippsland installation done we were quoted $7500 AUD plus airfares and accommodation for the installer. That was before we found that it would not work on our PA-25-180. Yes I did say 180, it is a converted PA-25-150 with a 180 Hp Lycoming in it.

Roger is indeed correct once they have been replaced the AD requires no further inspection of that area.

Regards

Derek

You don't have to go overseas to Harris Hill or elsewhere for ths fix.  We have have the Gippsland Aeronautics designed replacement front spar carry through structure fix applied to both our Pawnees more than 7 years ago.  And I would back Gippy Aero engineering ahead of overseas stuff having regard to Gippy Aero's history with STC'd Pawnee derivative Pawnees and their certificated GA200.  Their mod scheme is approved as a terminating mod to the action called up in the Pawnee Australian Airworthiness Directive.  At least it was that way when we had the mod/replacement done.  However I haven't had to sight the AD in recent times to see if there are any new twists.
