I asked since when Visa and Mastercard had merged. "It was this morning
only" was the response.
I was so shocked and amazed that this got past all the regulatory processes
without making it into the news that I may have sworn at the call
Yeah because the whole STIR/SHAKEN thing has worked so well in the US eh (no,
unfortunately not!)
BTW, I think BCP38 implementation may be a bit less prevalent than you think it
might be for similar reasons :)

AU was the ONLY place where we could present ANY caller ID we wanted.
Everywhere else our VOIP provider required a copy of our phone

Slightly off topic, but when I have time to waste, I love getting those
“your computer has a virus” calls. I make them wait as I “boot it up”,
suggesting it’s a bit old and slow, say I’m switching on the modem, and
then eventually let them know I’m ready. Let them start trying to instruct

That number rings a bell, think I got the same mob a week ago thereabouts.
Got a bit creative with them and probably wasted an hour of their time.
Sadly they got upset when I tried to "bargain" down their service cost of
$500 to something more reasonable (like three cents and a ball of string).

Just had a scam call from a female operator, called from "0432 594 523"
(probably a spoofed number), says her name is Selina from Telstra, that my
modem has a virus. She gave her Telstra staff ID as C0527 (that's not a real
Telstra staff ID, it starts with a 0 and it's too short) and hung up whe
