version 2.49-d from alpha.gnu.org seems to behave similarly when I
look at the code in acgeneral.m4).

What directories does this macro search in?? is it just standard ones
(like /usr/lib) or will it
also search directories specifed by certain environment variables and/or
script variables (such
as LIBS)
It seems to me that it only sea
Is anyone working on this section of the manual? I could have a stab at
writing a short overview for the release, just so that we have something
there.
As far as I can see, the main task should just be to explain what the
other tools are, why it is good idea to use them together, and point the

A logo should be relatively small and clear - that plan can only
fulfill one of those criterias at a time. I was also hoping for
something with a couple of colors besides

Autoconf 2.49e is available as

The code is absolutely frozen, this is our release candidate. We
still have much freedom on the documentation, of course.
Alexandre, if you still think we should branch now, please do. Please

Hello,
I have a somewhat unusal C compiler and version
of unix that is giving me problems with a configure
script (using Autoconf 2.13).
The result is that configure incorrectly decides that
the header doesn't exist.
There are two related reasons for this problem:
a) The C compiler likes
