There was a bug. It should be gone in 3.4.8. Are you using that version?

Hi,
I just started with awesome, it's really awesome. While collecting
experience with the awesome API and vicious, I stumbled across a
problem: sometimes windows get lost after restarting awesome. Pidgin for
example still resides in the systray, but other than other programs I
