The most straightforward idea for me is to use dmenu's xmms-like
completion and wmctrl for listing the windows. Then some awesome
scripting for actually changing the focused client. I've even once
thought of doing it myself, but, well, didn't actually ever get to it
:)

Hello,
I'm using a similar setup. The answer to your question
is "awful.hooks.property" which notifies about property changes
of a window.
