In basic terms the clustered index key determines the physical order in which the data pages are stored. That means that all topics starting with “A” will come first in the book then “B” and so on in alphabetical order. As a result of this you can have only one clustered index per table.
The data pages of the non-clustered index are not stored in the order of the index key. This is like a book with an index at the back where you locate a topic in alphabetical order in the index and then skip to the pages to find the topic. You can have more than one non-clustered index per table and a table that has a clustered index can have several non-clustered indexes.
