Well, you could tweak the logic a bit.

When we implemented Axapta in one of our companies we had to import opening
balances per item. This was done through the standard import functionality
of Axapta. Now, in order to get things right we simply copied the imported
journal to another journal - thereby allowing Axapta to take care of the
InventTrans logic. After that we deleted the imported journal, posted the
copied journal and we were just fine.

This is probably not documented - but it works every time. We did this for
20-25 journals with 1.000 lines in each.
