Tim, I just did a fresh checkout:
export CVSROOT=:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/sources/gcl
cvs -z9 -q co -d gcl-2.6.8pre -r Version_2_6_8pre gcl
and I see both the patch below and the relid patch in configure.in.
Am I missing something?

Another bad news. gcl-2.6.8pre, from axiom zips directory, does not
compile on Debian-amd64 (64bits OS and gcc 4.0.3). I will check out the
gcl-2.6.8pre from GCL cvs, investigate and inform Camm of these
failures.

Hi Tim,
Axiom does not compile for me on Debian testing. I think you have
applied one patch to configure.in but not to configure. Since gcl build
process does not generate configure from configure.in the build fails.
Applying the following patch (see zips/gcl-2.6.8pre.configure.in.patch)
corrects
