zxis-c-current bin is compiled against xerces-c 2.2.0. Hence you will
not be able to run axis c with xerces 2.7.0.
If you want to get axis c working with xerces 2.7, you would have to
build axis c source.
If you want to use axis c bin vertion, you got to use xerces 2.2.0.

Maybe some more information...
I ran axis_simple_server under strace. I'm not an strace expert, but it
appears to die shortly after opening the xerces library:
open("/usr/local/axiscpp_deploy/etc/server.wsdd", O_RDONLY) = 5
close(5)= 0
read(4, "", 4096)
I downloaded xerces-c-current.tar.gz which unpacked to xerces-c-src_2_7_0
This appears to have built and installed properly.
I then got axis-c-linux-current-bin.tar.gz, which unpacked to
axis-c-1.5.0-linux-bin I carefully followed the installation instructions

Hi all-
I'm trying to build Axis 1.5 using the Ant build system, and using a
non-default compiler (i.e., not the one which simply typing 'gcc' or
'g++' would resolve to). I have several compilers installed on my
machine, with gcc 3.2.3 being the default. However, I need to produce
builds for
+1 to 1.6 release.

Hmm, it always used to be that
new shells do get to see the changes but services did not - as they are
