It would be a really nice enhancement to have the messaging menu
display the number of unread notifications right on the icon.
Currently, if I receive a notification, the icon changes which is fine
but if I step away for a minute and a new notification arrives, I'll
have no way to tell

I've only ever seen one person adjust the font size on any OS, Ubuntu
or otherwise. This person needed the font larger so that he could see
easier, and a basic font-size setting is present in "Universal Access"
for people with such needs. Other users *shouldn't* need to adjust
their font size,
