The indicator applet in Karmic doesn't show the real user name, but it
shows the login name instead.
Many teachers like me use generic login names for the students (e.g.
class-A) and tell them to supply their real names e.g. with `userinfo`.

between full name, short username and no name at all (I don't need to
see my login username always at the corner!)

And this is the reason that we switched to username, to help out with
small screens. The reality is for really small screens we'd want to
drop the name all together
