nationality? On my Grandfather's Ellis Island Manifest he listed his
nationality as Great Britian, but his country of origin as Portugal. I
do remember my mother telling me he came the the US to avoid being

Pat, it could be as your oral history says. However, my grandfather left the
continent of Portugal from Lisbon on a British ship that sailed to Liverpool,
England before coming to New York. I can see him (or someone else) saying that
he had come from England because, in fact, that was the
CCA has put Terceira casamentos index records for freguisas Santa
Barbara, Cinco Ribeira, and Sao Bartolomeu. These are NOT casamentos
records, but an index by year.

Vila Franca). One is Sao Miguel Arcanjo or the Matriz (the mother church).
The other is Sao Pedro. Your Bernadina is from S.Miguel Arcanjo. I found
