Hi Keith, I’m having the same problem with my great grandfather that came to Hawaii in 1883 also. I was told his name was Caitano but his actual name is Guitao de Souza. Either name I didn’t have luck finding him in one of the passenger ships to Hawaii, (Big Island). But thanks to this forum

It depends when the birth took place. If it was prior to 1910 then it would be in the archives if it was after 1910 it would be in the registry. If the parish is in the CCA website http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/ . If you send for the birth record you will need to know village (Parish) a
