It depends.
Ernesto do Canto made partial indices for select freguesias and select
events on Sao Miguel. A few marriages from Sao Miguel have been published
in the Insulana books. I've typed up a marriage index for Achada from the
beginning to 1723 or so. Carlos Machado also did a lot for Sao Migu

Hi Cathy,
Welcome to the group. The vocabulary in the Portuguese records is
relatively limited and fairly easy to learn. After that, deciphering the
handwriting and abbreviations of the some of the older records may be the
bigger challenge.

Cathy B,
The Azores GenWeb has resources to help you "read" the records. But that's
not your problem. You need your freguesia (village). No one on this list

Many people on this list who help out are working and not retired. We

I have no question this time; just a finding that I found interesting. I'm
sure many on this list are familiar with "Archivo dos Açores" by Ernesto do

Sandra,
I think you have all the relevant data correct as far as names, date, ages,

Agua Retorta's church name is Nossa Senhora de Pena de França. This church
was under the church of Nossa Senhora da Graça in Faial da Terra. District
of Povoaçao.

Yes You should look in the records of NS da Graca in Fayal da Terra on Sao
Miguel. Usually when the person is from another island the record will have the
word for island “ilha” followed with the name of the island.

Its not another island that is being referred to. Instead, I believe the line

Church.
The line, that is equal to being one below the margin note...this is what I see:
Santa Madre Egreja Catholica Apostolica Romana.
