Yes, you got it. If you can't find the obit for the noted date of Nov 4
1892 is probably because there wasn't one. The body may have not been
recovered.

It's probably abrevation of "escravo" (slave). I saw a lot of "scravo" to
escravo.

I think I've seen C.ro on Santa Maria island for Corvelo. This is Sao Jorge
island and I don't research there, so it may be a different name (Carreiro,
