Is it at all possible that in this situation, legataria is like legitimate
mother or perhaps a kin relation of some sort? For what purpose would a
tombstone say someone's name like that?
I need to see what other stones I know of that have stuff like that. It seems

You are wright. There are "official" abbreviations. And abbreviatiions of
the gravestone and of the priests on the records. And they don't know the
"official" standard.

Philippe, If we are showing others how to in Portuguese, I have to say that
none of the abbreviations as shown are correct. There is one form only, and
that is (Sr.) masculine and (Sra.) feminine.
All others as the example on the gravestone may be due to lack of writing
knowledge of the engraver.
Yes, good article and summarizes some of Michael C. Tepper's "American
Passenger Arrival Records" and John P. Colleta's "They Came In Ships."
Yes, they had translators at Ellis. Glad this article tries to put this
name change myth to rest, as most people won't read Tepper's or Colletta's
books.

Interestingly I cannot find his birth or death records. Only a tombstone

who received the legacy, beneficiary, The one who receives an inheritance.
Cheri, I can only presume the sn is an incorrect spelling of Sr. (senhor)
otherwise (sn) translates to sem numero (without number)
