1300’s: She was Dona Maria Fernandes Barrantes (in my book from Joao Ventura on
page 433) married to Joao Lourenco do Amaral. Dona Maria and Joao have a
daughter Dona Brites Anes do Amaral who was
It would be speculation on my part as to why they needed a certificate but the
first thing that comes to mind is they needed for a governmental purpose such
as a passport or perhaps to inherit property.
