My maiden name is DeBettencourt and I have come to realize it's actually de Bettencourt through my years of research. I have seen many spellings on records like Cheri mentioned but keep the the original spelling and make a note of the other spellings in the tree records. I wonder if there is any

Hi Pat, Pretty much what Rosemarie said. Today most (if not all) famillies use the spelling Bettencourt. The ways you find it spelled throughout the years in the census or the church records usually can be justified with the fact that priests often wrote the names like they heard it. You will find
