Vivian,

What I have found is that you cannot get too caught up in surnames (portuguese
have multiple surnames) and date of birth (often times they didn't know exactly
how old they were) .  Since you know approximately when they immigrated to
america, go to the following link and look, record-by-record for them (the
group) giving care to the first names and approximate ages.  I have found
records for a few of my relatives this way.  Good luck!

I clicked on this site and from there I am lost.  I can't find a search engine
and when I click on Horta  the page came up blank.  HELP!!!

ps:  Although it is not in english, you can figure out the month.

Hello All,

I have a question and hope someone can help.  Any help is appreciated.  My
paternal Grandmother:  Marie Gertrude Holmes b-5/31/1894 in Sao Jorge (I
think?) came to the U.S. she said when she was 7, thru Boston?  With her Mother
Isabel I Sousa (maiden Enos), her Step Brother Manuel Sousa, brothers: Joseph
Holmes b-1884, Frank Peter Holmes b-1882, & John Joseph Holmes b-1887.  I can't
find them coming into this country. I found a note that said her Father Frank
Holmes was dead and her mother may have married again to a (Premo Sousa b-1855
in Sao Jorge).  Nothing was ever said about Premo being her step father except
a note I found. Her mothers fathers name was Rawlin Enos & his spouse was
Beatrice Silivera.  I can find nothing on Frank Holmes anywhere here.  So think
he never came over and may have died in the Azores.  I think Isabel may have
married him about 1895 in Azores.  Premo's parents are listed as Sabstino Sousa
and Maria Geneviva.  If
anyone can direct me or help in any way to let me know what her name may have
been in the Azores.  I can not speak or read portuguese yet. Any help or hints
would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Vivian (Silva) Christy
