Hello all,

I am relatively new to the group and have posted two or three messages;
however, I have been reading all of the messages posted for the last five or
six months... I have to admit, I am a little stuck in my Portuguese research
and actually a little jealous with all of the cousin news lately... so I am
writing this in the hopes that I can get some leads/direction as to which
way to take my research. My paternal side is the portuguese family.
Paternal Grandfather's family...

My grandfather, George Gomes (b: 2/22/1925 d:11/17/1998) was born in
Oakland, CA and he was the only child of his parents nine children born on
the mainland United States. He had eight siblings. Six of his brothers,
and one of his sisters, (John Gomes [b: 1907 d:1972], Joseph Gomes [b: 14
Jan 1910, d: 31 Jul 1970], Mary Gomes [b: 27 Apr 1912 d: 15 Jun 1989], Frank
Gomes [b: 13 Aug 1913 d: Feb 1994], Victorino Gomes [b: 14 Dec 1914, d: Jun
1984], Justin Gomes [b: 20 Dec 1918, d: 28 Feb 1991], and Antone Gomes [b:
Nov 1920, not sure if he is still alive]) were born in the Territory of
Hawaii. My grandfather's oldest brother (Manuel Gomes [ b: 5 Dec 1905 d: 20
Apr 1983]) and his parents (Victorino Gomes [b: 17 Nov 1882 d: 29 Jan 1952]
and Mary de Jesus Sousa [b: 15 Sep 1885 d: 6 Jul 1966] were born on the
Island of Madeira. I know that they were married in Santa Maria Maior were
born in 1905

I know that the family (Victorino Gomes, Mary Jose de Souza and Manuel
Gomes) traveled to Hawaii from the Island of Madeira on the S.S. Luveric
leaving on 10 Oct 1906 and landing in Honolulu on 1 Dec 1906. And then I
have found records that the family traveled from Honolulu, Hawaii to San
Francisco on the USS President Cleveland on 27 Jun 1923.

Any help, hints, direction, assistance would be helpful. =)

I'll talk about my paternal grandmother's side of the family at some later
point, however, I will say that my grandmother is a Rodrigues and her mother
is a Cabral. =)

Eric Gomes
