On the second day of October 1709 coming from Fayal a lateen boat from this parish, the master of which was Manuel Sylveira Castanho...[I can't quite translate this section]... eight people died.. [list of victims follows, one was a slave]... the entry ends by stating that they were buried in the church. That's a really interesting record.
