Sylvr.a Castanho, [nanfragou??] junto a [Areia??] 
larga no baixio da parte do norte morre-
rado outo pessoas, a [s]aber George [Roiz] na
tural das Band.sas el cazado nesta freguesia...

On the second day of October 1709 coming from Fayal a lateen boat from this 
parish, the master of which was Manuel Sylveira Castanho...[I can't quite 
translate this section]... eight people died.. [list of victims follows, 
one was a slave]... the entry ends by stating that they were buried in the 
church.

That's a really interesting record.  Thanks for posting it.
