I took a quick look and it looks, for me, Margarida d'Assunção. There
is a "s" between the A and the "S", Assunção is a more common name
than Ascenção. I may be wrong too.

No, if you find a baptism that says the baby was born to Manuel Martins and
Maria da Gloria, you go and find Manuel & Maria's marriage. It will say
Manuel was the son of A & B and that Maria da Gloria was the daughter of X
& Y.

There are 3 time periods of records. I'm doing this off the top of my
head, so the dates are approximate.
1st period: 1600s-1700s: The women are listed with surnames
2nd period: 1800s: The women are listed with their middle religious names
only
3rd period: The women have surnames.
