The X or cross symbols are usually the mark for witnesses that did not
read or right. It was standard in those days to sign by making an X
in civil registries or cross symbol in church records. The priest or
someone else with writing skills enters their names beside or by
having it placed in
I've noticed alot of records that have signatures and they have some
crosses between the names. Some of the crosses are plane and other's
are more elaborate. Do they mean anything? Here is an example:
