I've been communicating back and forth with the Camara Municipal trying to find some information that could be helpful to fellow researchers who decide to visit. One of the things we've really enjoyed are attending a couple of the Festas in VFC, but often find it hard to get dates in advance. Here is the festa schedule for the upcoming season:
Festa de São Miguel Arcanjo | Procissão do Trabalho - May 11 Festas do Feriado Municipal – São João da Vila - June 24 Festa do Coração de Jesus (Ribeira das Tainhas) - July 20 Festa de Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Ponta Garça) - August 3 Festa do Santíssimo Sacramento (Água d`Alto) - August 24 Festa do Senhor Bom Jesus da Pedra - August 31 We attended Sao Joao last year and it was wonderful - crazy, but wonderful! Advice to attendees - rest up in advance! A few years ago we attended the Festa de Sao MIguel Arcanjo and it was extremely moving. The other thing I've noted from time to time on this board is that folks would like to rent apartments in VFC which are also a bit difficult to find.
