Cheri- for the first time I started to understand this DNA "stuff". I marvel at
you understanding it in such a way to make it clear. I'm going yo print it out
so I can study it since email can get lost. Thanks once again for your
commitment and dedication to helping us find our ancestors (and

Hi David M,
It does take a while to understand it all.

I will be offline Friday from 8 a.m. PST to 9 or 10 pm CST as I'm traveling
to the FTDNA Conference in Houston. Rosemarie will release what she can,
but she's at work. So there may be a delay with some messages on this list.

That was great! If you keep this up, I may actually understand the DNA tests
some day.

Hi Paul G,
I'm sorry about that. I guess in my rush I forgot to mark the email so I
could go back later and answer in more detail. Thanks for the reminder!
There are different types of DNA testing. We've all heard about criminals
and their DNA being run through CODIS (COmbined DNA Index System
Paul,
re: FTDNA - I always have my family join a surname or group, like this one,
when I can. I think you get a little price break even when they are having
a sale (wait for one) because, I believe, you will find close matches more

Baltar Family,
Yes, Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) is for paying customers. They have their

Paul,
I have had both done. My Portuguese genetics have not turned up many matches
in the group, however, you probably have different genes than I do (from our
great grandparents) so we may find better matches that way. That is: if you
decide to do it.

Hi Paul G,
It's kinda like having a generic gasket for your car which you take into
the dealership. The dealership will want to use their own gasket, even
though yours might work.
One of us admins will announce on the list when FTDNA starts their Holiday
Sale. Usually it's in December through D
Cheri,
Here are the DNA kits that I own. They are from DNA LifePrint. They
are endorsed by John Walsh from the show America's Most Wanted. As for the
age, they are about 10 years old still in their original boxes. One box has
been opened but the swab is still factory sealed, as is the vile tub

Are these kits issued by FTDNA? How old are they?
