All the issues you are posting are likely related: it appears
no files are backed up. Normally

digging in the associated log files to pimp up the reports but I don't
think that it will be neccessary.

Well, both ssh and sudo each work correctly, as it turns out. But I am
starting to wonder about the actual rsync command and aruments. I don't
know all these switches, and just took this from someone's on-line backuppc
example, so I think that's what I need to research next.

Those each work as expected.

Hello!
I'm using BackupPC version 2.1.2pl1 on a Debian (stable) server to
successfully backup itself as well as two other Debian-machines on
the local network.
What is the best/easiest way to configure BackupPC to also backup
two other machines (one Debian and on Windows XP) that is on

1) I've successfully "pre-populated" backups in the following way.
a) Configure backuppc to backup my host machine (myhost.com) over the
internet.
b) Take my host machine (myhost.com) and physically place it on the same
local network as my BackupPC server.
c) Determine the local IP address of the
If you have your own (versus an appliance) DHCP server, you could code
the DHCP to resolve both of the same ether addresses to a single IP
address. Just make sure to NOT use BOTH at the same time on your
laptop. (unless you figure out how to do the old 'shotgun' or bonding

Iv' got a problem with the restauration of datas.
I can't restore datas which were saved on the BackupPC server (Fedora Core

I see that the folder is empty on the web interface even if the backup was

Hi,
Two issues we have before using BackupPC are this:
1) Can we pre-populate backups with offsite backup data?
2) Can we set BackupPC to only make incremental backups?
The reason for 1) is that we have big remote data servers that need to
be backed up over slow lines. So we can take local backu
Iv'e got a problem with the web interface if I want to restore datas.
I can't access to the files which were saved because it tells me that the
folder is empty.
Consequently, I can't restore the datas.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Run the ssh command interactively as the backuppc user on your server:
/usr/bin/ssh -l backuppc $host
then run 'sudo rsync' with no arguments and check that you get a help
screen for rsync.
