for me, laptops are the most important thing to backup. desktop users write
files to a network share so their files are safe, and the network share is
backed up. laptop users are more prone to damage, loss, or theft. also, in
my organisation, laptop users are typically users that have more impor

added to the wiki without waiting for you to do it. im sure someone will
pull parts of it out that apply to their situation. it a good thing.

The setup that works the way I need it to and does what I want is the best
setup *for me*. That might be a vanilla setup, or it might be one I've
modded the hell out
my priority is making sure that these laptops are backed up and the data is
safe. the people that are running the laptops dont have that same priority
and will not do the backups. i need to get these backups done when they are

Hi Dan,
I was kinda assuming that each admin would, after testing to see if s/he
wanted to use it, write scripts that automate the heavy lifting. As a lazy
sysadmin, if I have to do any task more than twice, I'll probably script
it!
For instance, I have:

does anyone else see this as a complicated workaround? i read through the
windowsxp setup and it is not trivial. what i mean is, repeating that
process on any number of laptops would be a hassle.
i wonder if it might be m
Is there a howto somewhere to do this...or even a mini howto? Can't seem to
get to first base with this.

Hi,
I'm using BackupPc v. 3.0.0 ( from Debian Testing ) on a Debian Etch.
Using it to backup 2 WinXP computers and the local linux-box to a
USB-disk.
I found having problems doing backup of localhost.
Setup to do a full ( "/" ) backup, excluding the critical directories.
