Just completed a new full backup on a host without the --archive flag
and its the same thing. The Xferlog shows it sees the symlink /bin/sh ->
bash but then its not in the pool, no fsh. Very confusing.

Has anyone every tried using backuppc with gluster?
I have setup a quick glusterfs on some test rigs and find it to be a very
very interesting filesystem.
gluster does run under fuse but performs like a native filesystem. I get
11.7MB/s on a 100Mb line, which is just as fast as iscsi. I can eve

also, rsync over ssh is problematic on windows clients. better to either
use just rsyncd or use rsyncd over a vpn tunnel

1) Is is also possible to add a 3rd harddrive via USB or Firewire to the
RAID1 and then using your idea to detach and reattach the harddrive?
yes, that is a very good method. I suggest you try to do esata but usb or
firewire will work. esata is just much faster.

I dont know, but if you use deltacopy you are using a slightly dated version
of rsync on a slightly dates version of cygwin's dlls which does work in bpc

I have abondon ssh tunnels for rsync in favor of pptp vpns on remote clients
and I dont use any encryption on trusted networks.

I just noticed that on one of my three hosts that I back up, I can not
seem to back up /etc. I get the following messages in my log file:
2008-07-10 13:50:44 full backup started for directory /etc
2008-07-10 13:51:00 Got fatal error during xfer (Unexpected end of tar

In my search to become more familiar with backuppc, I came across some
references to BackupPCd. I then also came across a mailing list
archive with the subject "BackupPCd: dead?".
Is this the case? I still find references to it in the backuppc docs
as well.

59 was the most recent full backup done.
No fsh file, I had looked there already as I have done manual restores a
few times in the past.
Is there something in the way it does hardlinks that may be screwed up
and not allowing it to happen? If it was having trouble doing so would
it log it someplac

Hi,
Since two days one of my backup machine stay frozen with no error message !?
I use BPC 3.1.0 on Debian Etch and on the remote machine we use rsync
version 2.6.8, it seems the remote rsync stop to send but the connection
stay open. The remote dir where the backup stop is 640Mb of size.

Rsync scales poorly to millions of files; the memory requirements are too
high

Last I knew, cygwin rsync+ssh did not work due to a bug. Has this changed?

Hi,
you might to give execution rights as well. If the directory is only readable
even a simple ls fails.

Hello!
I just realise that BackupPC seems to skip directories
during a backup.
In my localhost.pl I have:
$Conf{TarShareName} = [
'/etc',
'/home',
'/root'
];
But the '/home/peter/Maildir' (among others) is not
backuped. I noticed that the permission was different for

If anyone has some guess where I can look for this problem I would
appreciate some help.
Examining the Xferlog I see that the rsync definately saw the /bin/sh
symlink during the transfer.
create l 777 0/0 4 bin/sh -> bash
But once the backup is complete there is no symlink listed
