Using the 4.1.2 COPR on CentOS7. If I set the BackupFilesExclude in config.pl
it will be overwritten the second I change any other setting. If I change the
setting in the GUI it saves, but reverts to empty the next time any other
setting is saved.

Is there a timeline for when version 4.x will appear in the main epel repo?

Unfortunately I’m not in that position or I would LOVE to. As of yet we don’t
have cloud backup.
Can’t wait to update 3.3.1 to 4.1. I plan to move my 3.x data directory aside
and start it from scratch on 4.x. I’ll trash the old stuff in a month or so.

Now that 4.1 is out is there an updated idea when the EPEL package hits for
el7? I’m itching to see how much better my performance is running parallel over
our 10G connection, and what saturates first. The net or the CPU.

No worries, I appreciate the efforts.
The new version has two new dependencies, BackupPC-XS (a perl module) and
rsync-bpc (a fork of rsync with the required modifications)

Do you have any target date in mind to have the epel package ready to update
from 3.x to 4.x? So I can tell my boss.

Awesome news. I have been waiting for this day for 10+ years.
Thanks

I’m curious since el7 has been the current OS for a pretty long time why the
“new” version of BackupPC defaults to init.d? I will probably wait for the epel
package to appear before I upgrade. But I gave consideration to piecing

Personally, I have only one fundamental issue with BackuPC 3.x, that we rely
upon to back up all of our linux clients (including a 3000 core cluster). The
problem is that it replaces modern rsync with some ancient embedded version. If
that one thing could be "patched" I would hardly care about
Any chance that BPC 4 has the same mail bug that BPC 3.x has? That bug seems to
have been completely ignored. The original report I found was over 6 months
ago. I posted my own remarks on Jan. 6th.

I have run into this bug myself, and it appears after 6 months nobody else has
reported on it or acknowledged it?
Hi!
In many host configuration files I have an override for EMailAdminUserName.
What happens now is that backuppc's sysadmin mail is sent to the user
specified in EMailAdminUse
I am also wondering just how "alpha" BPC 4.x actually is. It seems to have been
2 years since it was patched. That either means it's pretty stable or people
who use it don't report to the lists. Or hardly anyone uses it.

Has anyone looked into dropping the paid AsperaSync or perl module parsync into
BackupPC to replace vanilla rsync?

Subject: Re: [BackupPC-users] BUPC process monitor command alias help
How about a function like this
function watchbupc() { watch -n 10 "lsof -n | grep rsync | egrep '
(REG|DIR)
I found a command that helps to monitor what BUPC is up to on the client side.
I was wondering if anyone has some ideas on escaping it for use in the
bash_alias file?
#> watch -n10 "lsof -n | grep rsync | egrep ' (REG|DIR) ' | egrep -v '(
(mem|txt|cwd|rtd) |/LOG)' | awk '{print $9}'"
