Hallo,

I use BackupPC to archive komplete VMware-Snapshots. Everything works fine on
Suse Linux.

I also use the xfer archive method to generate tar files for long term backups
on blueray disks.

When I try to open these tar files on windows (e.g. with 7zip and ohter tools)
, I get errors (broken archive).
If I extract the BackupPC tar file on linux and recreate the archive with the
same files with tar -cvf
then I can extract this new tar file on windows.
The problem exists only for larger files (perhaps above 4 GB). Smaller files
can be opened with 7zip.

In the code I have seen, that BackupPC uses it's own perl functions to create
the tar files.
Has somebody an idea converning the reason for this incompatibility to windows?

Thanks,
Wolfgang
