A copy of BackupPC 3.1 has been obtained from the main Ubuntu repository and
successfully installed on v 8.04-Server. This has now provided access to the
file BackupPC_archiveStart which I intend to use via cron as outlined in the
BackupPC documentation.
When executed from the command line thi
I am struggling to create an archive from the command line. The desired
outcome is to emulate the clicking of the "Start Archive" button in the web
page as this method is working perfectly. The overall objective is to create
the archive as a cron job.

I may have missed something obvious but I am unable to create an archive of
existing backups using the CGI interface and schedule facilities. All other
normal backups are successfully created this way. If started manually from the
CGI interface the archive is created successfully.

Nils,
thanks for the quick response.
$Conf{MaxUserBackups} seems to work in conjunction with $Conf{MaxBackups} to
restrict the total number of simultaneous backups that can be run. My tests
appear to confirm this as a user is still able to manually start a backup when

Is it possible to stop a user from manually taking a full and/or incremental
backup? I have tried setting $Conf{MaxUserBackups} = 0; but this does not
achieve the goal.
Why do this? I have a network in which all user home directories are stored on
a dedicated file-server and therefore not sto
The man pages for apt-get lists the switches to control what is upgraded and
what is held back. In a Terminal window try "man apt-get"

This is a continuation of a previous enquiry "REQUEST FOR ADVICE ON SUITABILITY
OF BACKUPPC" submitted via the forum at Backup Central. Many thanks for the
responses from existing users.
