This workaround was proposed a long time ago (~5 years), and more
recent versions of cygwin should not have the original problem.
What version of cygwin are you running?

if you are using rsync on windows, you need to user rsyncd on backuppc.
how are you installing rsync on windows?? is it cwrsync or a full cygwin
install?
if you are having problems getting that working, uninstall the cygwin rsync

en fait lors de backup de fichiers important (5000 fichiers)+ fichiers de
messagerie de 200 Mo, le rsync (je pense) freeze et reste bloqué.
j'avais eu le meme probleme avec rsyncd , mais je vais refaire un essai
par contre avec smb il n'y a pas de reprise ou mise a
