I have only one hosted server that backups a few remote clients, when I more
to the Tar install I do not wish to lose any of my current backups as they
take awhile to run.

I build a native package for a couple of reasons:
- So that the package data base stays up to date, and you don't
accidentally install a conflicting package down the road that might break ;
