i have experienced this issue with large files on smb/cifs shares before. my solution was to change transfer method to rsyncd and install deltacopy on the windows machine.(deltacopy is just a nice windows fronted to the cygwin rsync daemon. easy to install on configure) On 10/19/07, Toni Van Remor

Hi. I'm using BackupPC 3.0.0 to backup two identical Windows server which shares the whole file system to my linux server, and I access it using the SMB Xfer method. BackupPC connects correctly to the shares but after a while the backup hangs and I get this error: "Call timed out: server did not
