Ah - ok
To make spooling work with the default rpms the perms on the /var/bacula
dir need to change so that the sd can write to it.
The rpm sets the perms to root:bacula
Whilst the sd is run as bacula:disks
It seems the sd spools some data to the /var/bacula then it starts to
use SpoolDirectory

Hello Bill,
(previous answer was sent personally, sorry)
Thanks a lot for a prompt reply.
I've already revised volume creation/retention/labeling policies so
that they will use 60 Gbs of disk space as maximum and Bacula will be
able to reuse them if needed.

Hi Kern,
About your ssh Xforwarding issue...
You need to add the following line to your /etc/sshd_config file:
X11Forwarding yes
then just ssh to the remote machine using:
ssh -X remote-machine
and you should be able to run remote graphical apps using your local Xserver.

Hi All,
I have been having a little problem for the last couple of weeks. The catalog
record for the currently used tape in my Diff pool keeps getting borked. The
slot number which should be 19, keeps getting set to 0 somehow. Then in the
morning when I get in to work my mail box is full of the

Bacula will also not purge an appendable volume, as far as I know. You
need to make sure that the tape is not in a writable state prior to when
you expect it to be purged; others reading this list feel free to
correct me if I'm wrong.
Volume retention

Hi Ryan,
Okay yes that is a good point.
However, the behaviour we are seeing is that the volume is still on
status 'Append' 2 weeks later (tapes get re-used every 2 weeks). Bacula
will happily start writing to the tape, and not recycle it first, which
it should because Volume Retention is 11 days

Seems to me that that should be writable either way, don't you figure?
In any case, after adding that definition, did you reload bacula?

I have the same problem and have spent 3 days trying to work out what
the problem is with no joy so far.
I'm using the 1.38.11 FC5 RPMs. With the tray monitor on a separate FC5

Hi Alan
Is 1.38.9 meant to be an older version?
Jobs that fail are follow-up jobs where
the predecessor succeeded.
For example:
First job succeeds fine.
Twenty minutes later the said follow-up
job starts at scheduled time, requiring the same(!) volume, which is still
in the drive and is not used
A couple of weeks ago the harddisk of my old laptop died. I got a new disk and

So I finally found what was causing all the problems. It was the drive
that had gone bad. Once I replaced the whole unit, including the
autoloader, Bacula was able to continue to perform backups without
having the tapes being relabeled.
So thx everyone for your help. It was much appreciated.
The change occurs at the next attempted backup. That tape will be
suggested for use, Bacula will check the duration and see that it is
unacceptable because of the Volume Use Duration. Bacula will then use a
different tape.
